Many people believe that the holiday decorations are still in the gameplay of Anthem is proof that BioWare gave up completely shooting game his blockbuster. In fact, the move was intentional: the studio announced in January that it would extend the holiday event to February and include two new Icetide armor sets in the game. While the developer’s move isn’t customary, it’s not a signal that BioWare has abandoned Anthem.
BioWare suggested the future of Anthem in a recent post, in which director Casey Hudson confirmed that an overhaul major (rumored November 2019) is actually underway, but there’s still a long way to go.
Hudson wrote that “Over the last year, the team has worked to improve stability, performance, and overall quality while delivering new content and features for three seasons. We’ve also heard player feedback. that Anthem needs a more satisfying loot experience, better long-term progression, and a fuller ending, so we realize that there’s still a lot of fundamental work to do to reach its full potential. titles and that will require more improvement than a regular update or expansion.”
“Over the coming months, we’ll focus on redesigning the game experience, specifically creating a core game loop with clear goals, driving challenges, and progressing play with satisfying rewards.” while maintaining the fun of flying and fighting in sci-fi environments. And to really do that, we’re giving a team time to test the gameplay over and over again.”
Anthem will continue to run events, store updates, and “old content” for now. But the seasonal updates, which replaced the “acts” structure last fall, appear to be on hold.
The studio didn’t give a specific timeframe for the Anthem overhaul, but it’s clear this will be a long-term project. Hudson said that Anthem’s next update will be out at the end of February to celebrate the game’s one-year anniversary.
