The developer of the game Among Us has decided to cancel the development plan for part 2, to focus resources and time on updating content for the first version.
More than a month ago, Innersloth shared that they are developing a sequel to the game. Among Us first debuted in 2018 but only became a huge hit on Twitch and YouTube over the summer. And due to that surprise, their plans were quickly changed.
“We decided to cancel Among Us 2 and focus instead on improving Among Us 1,” the Innersloth team said on the blog. “All of the content we planned for Among Us 2 will move to Among Us 1. This is probably the more difficult decision because it means diving into the game’s core code and redoing a lot of things. We’ve got a lot of plans in place and it’s exciting to bring new content to everyone while you’re still enjoying the game!”
Innersloth said the first thing that needs to be improved in Among Us will be the server: “Things will hopefully get better and better.”
Additionally, the team is developing a “color blind mode”, an in-game account/friend system, and new levels.
While the details weren’t shared, the team expressed “a lot of things are being planned” and they need time to “sort and prioritize” them.
“We debated a lot about the direction the game is going. Like when did we stop developing Among Us 1? What content will be ported to Among Us 2? The main reason we decided to “green light” the sequel is because Among Us 1’s original code is too outdated and can’t support much new content. However, the fact that the community is so in love with Among Us has really helped us want to support the game and take it to the next level.”
