The Age of Empires franchise is about to have a big announcement at Gamescom in Germany this time around. It will be part of Microsoft’s Inside Xbox program.
The announcement is expected to be made on August 19, and will take place at the Gloria theatre, Cologne. Fans around the world can follow through on Mixer, Twitch, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.
The official Age of Empires Twitter account says to keep an eye on the show for “some exciting news” about the franchise, but doesn’t go into detail about what they’ll be releasing. Age of Empires is part of a program that introduces blockbusters like Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, Gears 5, Battletoads, etc.
So what will Microsoft prepare for Gamescom? There are at least two current Age of Empires projects, one of which is Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition. The game will have a remastered 4K graphics, remastered sound, and a new campaign called The Last Khans. The game is due out this fall, and the new announcement may be related to the release date.
But beyond that, Microsoft may also share more about Age of Empires 4, which is currently in development by Relic – the team behind the Company of Heroes and Dawn of War series.
Currently, we have seen the Age of Empires 4 trailer, but these are only Age of Empires drawings. Hopefully, Relic will release some more gameplay at Gamescom this time.
Not only that, a few months ago, the series’ creative director, Adam Isgreen, also suggested another possibility: maybe the announcement of the Age of Empires III Definitive Edition. Or Gamescom will include information on all three titles! Everyone wait and see.
