First announced in 2016, Payday 3 was originally developed on the Valhalla engine, a game development engine that Starbreeze purchased for millions of dollars. Production restarted around 2020 and Starbreeze partnered with Embracer Group in early 2021 to publish Payday 3 once the game is complete.
