A series of Overwatch gamers quit their pet games to switch to Valorant

The launch of the closed beta version of Valorant this week generated a huge wave of interest from the fan community Riotas well as FPS gamers.

In addition, a strange, seemingly planned exodus appeared. A large number streamercontent creators and even professional player have all announced that they have quit Overwatch. It’s not uncommon for streamers to switch from game to game, but many of these have built careers from Overwatch.

Eskay, a Twitch streamer and YouTuber known for his Overwatch videos, posted a collage of multiple “bye-bye tweets”. Although not counting some cases of following the trend, the list of people who “give up” is really long. This list includes pro players like eMil (Gladiators Legion), George Gushcha (Paris Eternal), Taimou (Dallas Fuel) and Overwatch streamers like Soar Kayjii, TSM Gale and many more.

The names listed above and many others are now described as “former Overwatch players”, or something similar in their Twitter bios. The reason many people choose to switch to Riot’s game may be because of the way Blizzard dealing with game balance issues, or people simply don’t like Overwatch anymore. The majority of players praised Riot’s transparency and expressed confidence in Valorant’s plan to organize a competitive playground.

A departure of this scale is unprecedented, and all the more remarkable given that all players announced the news at roughly the same time. Of course it is possible to compare Valorant and Overwatch in some ways, but these are completely different titles nonetheless. Valorant officially launched this year, the beta will soon be expanded to more players and more regions.
