Sexual assault of female stars, Hollywood entertainment mogul sentenced to 23 years in prison

In 2017, Hollywood was shaken when the powerful movie producer Harvey Weinstein More than 80 women, including many famous female stars, denounced sexual harassment and assault. At the trial on February 24, Weinstein was found guilty by a New York court jury of first-degree sexual assault and third-degree rape, facing a maximum penalty of 29 years in prison. And yesterday, March 11, the Manhattan district judge officially sentenced the film producer to 23 years in prison. This is the proper punishment for the heinous crimes he committed.

At the height of his career, Weinstein was an extremely powerful name in the entertainment world, possibly even influencing the outcome of the Oscars. However, after being accused of sexual harassment and assault by a series of actresses like Angelina Jolie, Mira Sorvino, Ashley Judd, and Rose McGowan, Weinstein’s family and career fell apart.

Specifically, Weinstein received 3 years in prison for raping actress Jessica Mann and 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting former production assistant Miriam Haley. Speaking to the press as a victim, Miriam Haley said:
