So the 2018 season is coming very close. The European and North American LCS are almost starting to kick off, the LCK has also announced the start time of their new season, the players who left in the last transfer have also got a new place (except for those who are still playing). break) and the Burning Incense Censer meta has also disappeared. More than that, Tyler1 has been able to play League of Legends again. The upcoming 2018 season is sure to be extremely interesting.
So… how do we make sure that League of Legends continues to be attractive and constantly innovates? We’ve spent quite a bit of time researching and making a small list of things that we think League of Legends needs to continue to improve in order for the game to keep its heat in 2018. Riot also made a list for themselves before we made this list, and that prompted us to create the list below.
More than amateur tournaments
From an Asian player perspective, I would like to see more League of Legends tournaments beyond the LCK or GPL. I think this is also a pretty basic problem when Riot builds from the professional environment back. Take the example of football. People don’t play football just because they watch the Champions League? The Champion League appeared because there were people playing football. I want to see more of the amateur tournaments, and it doesn’t have to be Riot. What I’d like to see is for example schools’ after-school clubs and they’ll organize small tournaments between schools in the area. From here, regional tournaments will be elevated, then national, and most likely Worlds. I know this sounds far-fetched, but let’s be real, if it’s for young players, and I want young players to be able to experience what it’s like to be a pro, it will is a huge source of motivation for them later on, more than anything else. Give them a chance to become a pro, and watch the emotions explode.
This will likely mean that there is not always a large audience to watch as this is only a small-scale amateur tournament. But I’m pretty sure the friends and family of those players will be watching. If there were thousands of school-to-school matches, there would be at least thousands of students watching to cheer on their school’s team. This is not necessarily a national thing, but just a thousand little things in local areas. People will still watch League of Legends matches, the same way they watch college football matches. This is something that I think should be considered rather than major tournaments, or major arenas. Because this is where talent is sought and the best way to continue to develop their talent.
More interesting things about generals
I want to see more “Behind the scences” videos about champion design like what Riot Games did with Ornn. And I also want to have more tests. For example, a champion designed by the community. This might be the worst idea from a game developer’s point of view since it would have too many people directing the design, but I think it’s also going to be fun. Even if the champion is only present in a certain event, or a boss, it is interesting. This will be a dream come true for many gamers around the world.
More than creations with skins
Let’s take Dota as an example of this. I know we don’t want everything to be a copy of something, but the way Dota helps players interact more with skins has always caught my attention. There is no shame in pursuing a good idea. The current Multicolor Pack is also an effort, but the ability to “match” the skins is much better.
And maybe add new skins for jungle camps, for turrets, for minions or even the weather. Why not? Of course, this will not apply to professional matches, but only to casual matches, for example. For example, when the Emulator map was released as an event, wouldn’t that be great? But letting players choose the map themselves when they want instead of following events is a lot better.
Along with that could be other voices of commentators such as when announcing the start of a match, or someone just won “PENTA KILL”. I want Piratechnics to shout, “That’s great, man!” when my team has a clean sweep, I want to hear Phreak scream “Tons of damage” when I get a Penta Kill, I want Defico to tell me it’s time to buy gear early in the game, or listen to Sjokz “kicking” someone when they are destroyed by jungle monsters,…
Visualize the information in the update
Updates often bring a lot of information to players so that they can understand the changes of champions and equipment. I hope you enjoy reading, or if I do, I hope Riot summarizes that version in brief summaries, in the style of more illustrations than words, which will save players money. more time in capturing new information.
More creative champions
New champions like Rakan or the revised version of Urgot are always very interesting champions, or even Morderkaiser. I know that we still need traditional champions to stay true to the game, but having a few ‘weird’ champions is just as interesting. It helps that the matches that are now no longer are “fun farm” matches, then some big skirmishes and finally the main house.
Keeping League of Legends always interesting in the eyes of new players as well as adding a little “weird” is also a good idea so that the game is not boring. I still strongly support this direction of Riot.
Improve the plot of the generals
Short stories, or movies, etc. always attract the attention of players. For example the events of Gangplank, Graves, Twisted Fate and Miss Fortune, and many more. The plot has always been an integral part of the game, and it helps players want to learn more about Rune Terra as well as learn more about League of Legends.
More than special events
I really like the way Riot organizes their events. Events Super Product, Dark Star, Super Horrible Machine, etc. It is like a breath of fresh air for League of Legends, and also brings a lot of fun to gamers. Since we are entering the 8th year of League of Legends, and let’s be honest with each other, not too many players are going to go pro and mostly just play for fun, and we want more of the modes. attractiveness to be able to relax with friends.
I think we all want more exciting new events next year, when League of Legends is constantly changing and renewing itself. So let’s look forward to the exciting things that this 8th season brings us.
