Fans looking for more Overwatch League tokens can now earn more by watching OWL matches on Twitch.
As part of the contract between Blizzard and Twitch for Overwatch League coverage, players can earn Overwatch League Tokens (used to purchase Overwatch League team skins) by following the tournament on Twitch. To receive tokens, players must link their Twitch accounts to their Blizzard Battle.net accounts. One token will be earned when the online match ends, and some viewers will be randomly rewarded with 100 tokens – equivalent to the price of one skin – in the final map.
The program is currently available for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4, and runs throughout the first season of the Overwatch League. Few players may remember the surveillance program tested in January. Some players are rewarded with random tokens.
Along with the rewards program, Overwatch League viewers can unlock skins, emotes, and in-game items using Twitch’s Cheering with Bits feature. These skins are only for a short time Cheering, similar to the emotes and branded items of the teams. “The Cheer Ranking will track who cheers the most,” according to the press conference.
The money from cheers – simply donations but with icons – will not go to individual teams and players. “Overwatch League Cheering is part of a partnership between Twitch and the Overwatch League to support League and players in general.” Twitch representative said. “Cheer in the Overwatch League helps support this partnership, rather than individual teams.”
Going forward, Twitch will sell VIP tickets to Overwatch League viewers to unlock “more in-game items, behind-the-scenes videos on Twitch, and more features to be announced.” The VIP ticket launch date has not been announced yet.
The rest of the features will be available on the first day of Overwatch League phase two, February 21.
