Liquid’s Dota 2 roster just celebrated a special milestone – marking two years without a roster change.
On January 2, 2017, Liquid added position 4 support Maroun “GH” Merhej to the roster and achieved remarkable achievements over the past two years. That same year, Liquid climbed to the top of Dota 2. The team won The International 7 and with it 6 LAN trophies for the year. Liquid continued to perform strongly in 2018, continuing to be a tier 1 team after placing 4 at TI8, winning the SuperMajor and placing high in three DPC Majors.
Team Liquid is considered the most stable Dota 2 roster in history with this two-year milestone. When asked in many interviews about the key to success, players, coaches and managers all answered with the same mindset: creating a family atmosphere.
“All of our personalities fit together quite well,” carry player Lasse “MATUMBAMAN” Urpalainen said recently. “We all have a common goal. Every team wants to win together. It is a goal that you all strive for. You must have a common goal. And you have to always work together.” He added:
“We know everything about each other. Everyone gets along. We know how each other plays. We are a great fit and can’t wait to play again.”
Solidarity really brings many benefits to the team. Four members of Liquid – MATUMBAMAN, Ivan “Mind_Control” Ivanov, Amer “Miracle-” Al-Barkawi and captain Kuro “KuroKy” Salehi Takhasomi – are among the top 5 highest earning esports players of all time. In the two years together, they have won over $15 million in team prize money and that’s why Team Liquid is the highest earning brand in esports.
Liquid’s first game of 2019 will be the Chongqing Major, January 19-27 with $1 million in prize money and 15,000 DPC points pending.
