Hearthstone: Updated balance in February 2019, a series of Classic and Basic were nerfed

Starting on February 5, the new update will change many cards.

Blizzard thinks Hearthstone is always at its most fun when tactics are constantly shifting. When the new cards come out, the team wants to see the decks in the old expansion have some more interesting cards while you can still experiment with all-new archetypes. Whoever your opponent is, the Basic and Classic cards are always effective. They help decks remain effective in every expansion.

Ideally, the Basic and Classic cards should complement each Class and their system. As mentioned earlier, these cards can become problematic if they make other strategies less appealing. That does not mean that all Basic and Classic cards have to be useless. It is very important that these sets have some good cards – great tools for different scenarios and archetype decks.

Blizzard will change these cards because they have a very high spawn rate, no matter how popular the strategies are or if there are other cards in the set that can be substituted. When the Basic and Classic cards get this strong, they take away the flexibility to create decks, reducing the variety of decks in Hearthstone.

The following changes have the goal of making these cards from “always a must-have in the deck” into options for you to consider depending on the strategy you use.

Cold Blood – Will cost 2 Mana (Up from 1)

Flametongue Totam – Will cost 3 Mana (Up from 2)

Equality – Will cost 4 Mana (Up from 2)

Hunter’s Mark – Will cost 2 Mana (Up from 1)Emerald Spellstone – Will cost 6 Mana (Up from 5)

The only card change is not Basic or Classic. Blizzard wanted to make the Emerald Spellstone a threat in the mid and late game, so they added an extra mana to reduce its usefulness in the early game, reducing the aggressive tempo. This change – along with Hunter’s Mark – is used to reduce Hunter’s spawn rate.After this update goes live, players will be able to dust modified cards that are not part of the Basic set to receive the full Dust for the first two weeks.

Flametongue Totem and Hunter’s Mark are Basic cards and cannot be dusted.
