StarLadder speaks out about the controversy surrounding the CSGO Major streaming ban

StarLadder bans CSGO Major stream

CSGO tournament organizer StarLadder has updated its controversial bans against Twitch streamers for reporting on the StarLadder Berlin Major.

The challenger round of the StarLadder Berlin CSGO Major tournament kicks off from August 23, where teams battle each other for a spot in the next round and claim their place in CSGO history.

As usual, some CSGO community members also streamed themselves to report on the StarLadder tournament using the in-game GOTV feature, providing their own commentary and analysis. On August 24, many CSGO streamers were banned by the DMCA (digital rights controller) on Twitch for streaming events. This caused the organizers to receive a lot of bricks and stones.

However, before the third day of competition took place, many members of the community continued to join forces to protest, forcing StarLadder to speak out about the issue on their website.

StarLadder said: “The CSGO Major tournament copyright gives StarLadder the right to report the tournament content. We use this right to find sponsors and media contracts to make this event possible.”

StarLadder speaks out about drama related to community CSGO streams

StarLadder continues to “welcome” streamers for streaming to communities that don’t have an official channel to stream in their native language. The organizers are currently streaming in Chinese, Danish, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Polish, Portuguese, Serbo-Croatian and Spanish.

Most of the streamers taken down on August 24 were in English, and StarLadder said it would happily work with community streamers if the streamers shared sponsor obligations with the organizers.

After that, StarLadder also lifted the DMCA ban for streamers – helping those who were banned before no longer be banned.

StarLadder said: “To avoid future misunderstandings, please read our dispatch on Community Streamer.” StarLadder also advises that if anyone has questions about this, contact them.

While the StarLadder organizers want things to be on track, sponsoring compliance can be difficult for some streamers, as it could conflict with their current sponsor.
