PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is a big game and as such it always attracts attention from hackers. Specifically, the mobile version of the game is full of hacks, causing thousands of accounts to be locked every day. To combat this problem, Tencent Games and PUBG Corp. implemented Project Ban Pan, and the video below will share some information on how the studio catches cheaters.
The trailer may seem a bit exaggerated, but it’s worth watching because it’s based on a real-life situation, Tencent said. Initially, PUBG Corp. received many reports about a gamer, but when looking at the gameplay, everything seems normal. However, when the team digs deeper into what happened at the end of the game, they discovered something shady.
At a glance, this cheater doesn’t use any special tools. Instead, he just used two ordinary phones. One starts the game and plays until the end of the game. Midway through, this guy logged into his account on a second phone, and by doing so tricked the system into believing he was having connectivity issues. This creates a hole for this player to kill his opponent easily. Fortunately, he was discovered and now banned from playing PUBG for the next 10 years.
“About 95% of violations are penalized by direct ban by automated security system, and players can report any suspicious behavior to generate larger amounts of data, helping to inform subsequent penalties,” Tencent said. “Aside from the game side, the PUBG Mobile Safety Station website is a place for players to more effectively report suspicious behavior and confirm punishments have been delivered for their efforts.”
Project Ban Pan also introduced a Death Replay feature that will launch on March 3, showing players how they are killed from an opponent’s perspective. Hopefully, with this tool, it will be easier for players to determine if their opponent is cheating or not.
According to the studio, these reports have dropped significantly recently thanks to new anti-hacking methods.
“Currently, about 8,000 accounts are banned for 10 years every day,” Tencent released the data.
