A lot of people believe that the upcoming action-adventure game from Sony and Bend Studio, Days Gone, will be one of the most anticipated PS4 titles. But some others are not interested in Days Gone because the Zombie series has recently appeared too much, the zombie game genre is saturated. We have to agree with the above statement, but the Bend Studio team believes they will overcome these doubts when the game is released.
This topic was discussed in an interview between Game Informer and Days Gone creative director John Garvin. John Garvin said, “Too many Zombie themes was something we had to deal with from the beginning.” Even so, he is confident that fans will respond positively to the game, which is “unlike any zombie game you’ve ever played.” According to Garvin, “Fighting against an army of zombies will definitely be different from other games.”
In addition to having to convince fans who are too suffocated with the zombie genre to play Days Gone, Garvin said the problem with this game is the recent open-world blockbusters. For example, in 2017, we saw blockbusters like Horizon: Zero Dawn, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Assassin’s Creed Origins. In 2018, we have Far Cry 5. According to Garvin, Days Gone will set itself apart as “one of the first open-world games where there’s danger all the time.”
“You don’t have to find factions to fight and join. You could be on a mission and get knocked down by a Runner, that’s a zombie wolf, and at the same time, you’ll either run out of gas, be forced to go jungle, or your motorcycle breaks down.”
“The plot lasts about 30 hours, but it will take longer than that, because everything happens to you during the journey, depending on how careful you are as well as your concentration in the game. I don’t know of any other open-world game that can do that.”
There will be fans eager to experience Days Gone as soon as the game launches in 2018, there are still some people waiting to see how the game will turn out. The wait is understandable when the zombie theme combined with the open world is so familiar to many people. With that said, the plot and gameplay will play an important part in attracting and retaining players.
Before concluding the conversation, Garvin said gamers should give it a try: “I want to send a message to those who doubt that we are not the zombie game you think.” According to Garvin, one of the best ways to remove this distrust is to “pick up the game and say how you feel.”
Days Gone will launch in 2019 on PlayStation 4.
