In fact Kingdom Hearts 3 will be released in less than a month is making fans excited. This waiting period is really long with this super product. Now, with Kingdom Hearts 3 just a few weeks away, Yasue shares more about the difficulties the team went through during the development phase.
Speaking with Newsweek, Yasue was asked what specifically made the development process Kingdom Hearts 3 is so long (when the game was first announced in 2013):
“One of the main reasons was the decision to change the game development engine. Our current engine is great at developing high-end AAA titles, but due to changes in technology and workload, it took the team extra time to adapt and adjust.”
Square Enix decided to switch engine of Kingdom Hearts 3 to Unreal Engine 4 from 2014, instead of using the internal Luminous Studio engine. At the time, Nomura said the change did not hinder development Kingdom Hearts 3but this is not as convincing as we know.
Changing the engine to make the game will bring the desired results?
Nomura said in the past that Kingdom Hearts 3 published too soon and Yasue’s recent comments reinforce this. Not long after the game was announced, development had to start all over again with the new engine and the wait time speaks for itself.
Changing the engine of Kingdom Hearts 3 while the game has been in development for many years, plus the new gameplay system will definitely make the development process longer. But given what we’ve seen, this decision pays off.
Kingdom Hearts 3 slated to release on January 25th on PS4 and Xbox One.
