Steam Awards 2019 winners revealed

Starting in 2016, the Steam Awards give gamers the opportunity to vote for their own favorite games of the year. And 2019 is no different, the community continues to vote for categories from Game of the Year (game title of the year) to Most Innovative Gameplay (most innovative gameplay). While this year’s many winners of the Steam Awards 2019 are not surprising, some of the more prominent games are sure to catch your attention.

Topping the Steam Awards 2019 is From Software’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice with the Game of the Year award. This action game previously had to confront big names like Resident Evil 2 Remake and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The fact that Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice won the award is not too surprising because the previous game won the Game of the Year award at The Game Awards 2019.

As for VR Game of the Year, the award went to Beat Saber, while A Plague Tale: Innocence received Outstanding Story-Rich Game (game with outstanding storyline). In addition, My Friend Pedro received the Most Innovative Gameplay award (the game with the most innovative gameplay). Gris received the Outstanding Visual Style award (impressive graphics), and DayZ was named a Better with Friends game (more fun with friends).

There are several Steam Awards categories with more complex selection criteria, and require further explanation. For example, Labor of Love is the category for games that are still actively updated and supported years after launch, and Grand Theft Auto 5 is the winner. Best Games You Suck At is an award for games that challenge players’ skills, and Mortal Kombat 11 is at the top of this category.

Of course, not everyone agrees with the nominations and winners of the 2019 Steam Awards, but it’s pretty clear that 2019 was a year filled with plenty of games for gamers to enjoy. Below is the specific list of nominees and winners of the Steam Awards 2019.
