While the new patch is still being explored by the player community and Valve tweaks a lot of things, we’ll talk about the game’s most versatile heroes: the heroes that were in the most profitable group in the early stages of the patch. While most Dota 2 heroes have one or two ways to build certain items, the names below can build any item and become effective depending on the situation.
BOUNTY HUNTER
Bounty Hunter is quite strange at the moment: the hero is played in almost every position and goes in every lane, making it difficult to analyze the role of BH in Dota 2.
While Bounty Hunter doesn’t have many supports, the hero makes up for it with good laning and scouting abilities. If you know how to play effectively, it will bring a lot of gold for the team to take advantage of. And the important thing is the hero’s success or not lies in the item selection and it applies not only from postion 3 to 5 but also core 1/2.
Looking at the list of instructions for playing Dota 2 on Dotabuff, we can see how the build is very different from game to game. Sometimes, Bounty Hunter knows when to play greedy to be a carry. For example in such situations, if you play at core then you can go to Desolator.
When teamfight is lacking, a green bat can be a good idea, but it’s usually not a starting item. Building items that add a defensive or supportive aura like Heaven’s Halberd is usually preferred. Specifically, in some games, when meeting heroes with high mobility, going to Orchid brings a lot of impact.
When playing as a support, Mekansm’s upgrade to Greaves is still worth noting, but Greaves seems to be underwhelming against Medallion Courage. Again, it really depends on the game situation. When playing Bounty Hunter, you have to really understand the entire lineup of your opponents and the squad you have.
BH’s gameplay doesn’t change much from game to game, so you can apply this basic concept to all your picks. BH needs to get information for the team and the ability to survive in case the opponent sends sentry. You will need to constantly Track your opponent, so you need more mana related items (mana increase or mana recovery).
Ultimately, Bounty Hunter must contribute to the teamfight by providing support through items or quickly dealing with the annoying supports behind and that depends on which option is most feasible.
DOOM
Doom is the next ‘super versatile’ hero in the list of top flexible heroes in Dota 2, but unlike Bounty Hunter, Doom is mainly played as a position 3 offlaner, that’s no question. This means that Doom is usually the lead hero on the team, gets a little farming priority and will need survivability to benefit in teamfight.
For that reason, getting to the first Drum of Endurance is extremely popular these days with Doom: decent stats and extra movement speed are what heroes need early game to chase and survive. However, after that, the way to build varied a lot.
Blink Dagger has always been a good choice for Doom in Dota 2: can shorten the distance with the opponent and turn on Ultimate or use stun (stealed from War Stomp) very effectively. However, it is very risky: because you bet too much on Doom, but if the teamfight breaks out continuously or the opponent has too many heroes that need to be controlled by Doom, this method is not very effective.
Another option is to play Doom in a full 3 core position: With the ability to farm from Devour, Doom can get to Greaves, Pipe or Crimson very early, solving quite a few problems in the squad. These three items excel in certain situations and can turn the tide in any upcoming teamfight, at least for a while. However, getting all three items, or two of them with the hero core is not advisable. You still want to be strong later on, and after prioritizing a defensive item, Doom should put support on the following items.
Finally, we have Spirit Vessel and Blade Mail that can be used to conquer certain squads. Spirit Vessel is an almighty item when you know you have to run into a lot of healing squads as Doom can get on it early and will ensure top charges through Doom’s ultimate. It is also effective against Infernal Blade when the skill deals massive burst damage to buff targets.
On the other hand, Blade Mail is great against teamfight AoE squads because Doom mainly only picks one target hero, which is also Doom’s core weakness. By reflecting damage to enemy heroes, you not only play more actively but also contribute more in AoE teamfights with opponents.
VENOMANCER
Again, this hero has many of the things a Dota 2 hero needs: the ability to deal damage, control contested areas, push strong turrets, or even do core DPS (like TI7). Strong Venomancer in the current patch. This is reflected in the hero’s win rate at the highest rank. Similar to Doom, Venom mainly plays in the offlaner and can build as many items as he wants.
However, Veno’s gameplay is a bit different. While Doom tries to rotate around the map, ganking, Venomancer just wants to control the lane and constantly force the opponent to react after your move. From there, Venom can punish the enemy if he has no teammates with him. And for this reason, Venom should have at least one defensive item.
Like Doom, Venom builds very quickly, but unlike Doom, Venomancer has no problem building a lot of defensive items: Crimson or Pipe + Guardian Greaves are both acceptable, especially if you’re trying to overwhelm the early stages. mid game.
There are two very strong active play options: Spirit Vessel, an item that doesn’t need much introduction, and Veil of Discord, an item that can be very effective in certain games. Veil of Discord is underrated in the current meta, with its cheap price, easy to buy shards, and decent aura being valuable things, when the team is with you and into enemy territory.
Finally, Venom has a few extra options that you should be aware of: Heaven’s Halberd is terrible against ranged cores, and having that extra 5 seconds of survivability makes the difference between killing and being killed. When facing heroes with high hand damage like Templar Assassin and Clinkz, consider this item because they hate Halberd.
Venom can also use Rod of Atos to deal with mobile heroes. Venomancer does not have many tools to fight mobile heroes and this is also Hero’s biggest weakness. Atos somewhat solves some of the problems. But if your team synergizes well enough, it’s better to force the enemy to react by pushing turrets, rather than trying to find them. Going forward, Scythe of Vyse will be a more reasonable item in most situations when dealing with mobile heroes.
EPILOGUE
Patch 7.27b and 7.27c are still quite new and the heroes will still be tweaked. This will create new trends. This time will be quite chaotic as people are still figuring out how to adapt to the game. For that reason, the article recommends you try all three of these heroes: they are very versatile and can be used in any opponent, not to mention the heroes that benefited the most from patch 7.27b.
