The highly anticipated game God of War is about to hit shelves. This will be a great adventure that brings a new breath to the series compared to the old formulas of the previous parts. This difference will refresh God of War when the old formula becomes boring. This new part will bring another look at Kartos’ personality as well as the completely new world in God of War. Here are 10 reasons God of War will be awesome!
1. KRATOS IS A PARENT
Santa Monica quickly shows us how much different Kratos is now. At E3 2016, we see a different side of Kratos as he interacts with his son. No longer screaming like crazy in the past, our character has calm behaviors and lots of advice between father and son. They’ll have to wait a bit longer to see how this transformation adds to the character of Kratos.
2. TACTICAL BATTLE SYSTEM
An older, wiser Kratos means a softer Kratos. Overall, he is just as brutal as before, taking down opponents in a violent fashion and finishing them off with his fists. But games are more than just hack & slash anymore. Kratos’ new weapon adds a few tactical elements to combat as does Atreus himself in the game. You can make use of the environment as well as the opponent. And the number of enemies never runs out. You have to think how to win matches as well as use your strong power.
3. LEVIATHAN AXE
Kartos no longer holds two short chains, however, you will still see marks left on Kartos’ arms. The Leviathan ax is a completely different weapon, it adds an element of fun to combat. You can throw the ax and it has different effects. Throwing the ax can deal direct damage, knocking down enemies or freezing them. In addition, you can use weapons to solve puzzles. Moreover, you can summon it back at will and it can even hit the enemy when it returns. Think of it like Thor’s hammer Mjolnir, you’ll understand for sure.
4. ATREUS
Atreus was the son of Kartos. And Atreus is not simply a new character. Atreus can also be seen as a weapon. He helps his father in combat by shooting arrows, jumping on enemies and giving Kartos warnings. The game also has a “order me” button for Atreus to perform certain commands. This belongs to a new part of the combat system and adds tactical aspects. The addition of Atreus also reflects the father-son relationship as well as this ideology into the game. In addition, Atreus is not only part of the main plot, he is the guide for Kratos. Atreus was the only one of them who could read the Runes scattered across the world as well as speak the local language.
5. Norse Myths
Speaking of new areas or new worlds in the game, God of War has departed from Greek mythology. Kratos is still a god but in a completely different era. Norse mythology is full of new monsters and gods, but we still don’t know how it will affect the new plot, but it will certainly help open up many directions in the Nordic world. This seems like a new way to expand Kratos’ storyline. Information is scarce at the moment, but a lot is sure to happen. Not only for this game, but also for future sequels. Will Kratos step into the next myth?
6. RUNIC LANGUAGE
If you notice, the game has a lot of runes and even the God of War logo. They are not just for show. Santa Monica uses a runic language for runes. We have not yet confirmed whether there will be a translation for it in the game. This means that we gamers will most likely have to learn on our own. People are now trying to decipher what can be seen in the videos using translation websites. All in all, God of War will add realism to the game and tell a story with great depth. Runes will play an important role in the game’s magic.
7. LOOT AND UPGRADE
A completely new interesting point in the game is the loot system. As you destroy enemies and discover crates, you can collect them to upgrade. The upgrade will be done by the dwarves Brokk and Sindri, who are also responsible for the Leviathan ax. This is not simply a “give them these and get something new” system. Upgrading the kit will affect both Kratos and Atreus, and choices can affect the characters and play an important part in the story. Watch the following video to learn more.
8. NO LOOT BOX
The number of times Cory Barlog has had to reassure people that the game doesn’t have loot boxes cannot be counted. So this is good news for many fans of this game.
No freakin way!!!

9. GOD OF WAR VERY LONG
The vast majority of God of War games are between 15 and 20 hours in length. If you want to know more about the length of Kratos’ adventure, Barlog says God of War will last between 25 and 35 hours. This means something will be different. There will be a lot of extra quests added. And it is rumored that this storyline is very deep and will take a long time to finish the game. As a fan of God of War, I have no complaints myself.
10. BEAUTIFUL PS4 PRO VERSION AND COLLECTOR’S EDITION
If you haven’t seen it yet, check out the God of War PS4 Pro which was also released on the game’s launch day. It has a design based on the Leviathan ax and admittedly, the author himself has a crush on it. The handle also has some runes engraved on it and looks pretty nice.
And if your wallet isn’t ‘inflamed’ yet, the Collector’s Edition of God of War is well worth collecting. It includes the statue, the game in the magic book case, digital content, and many other collectibles.
And those are 10 reasons why God of War will be so epic! There’s certainly a lot more that could be added to this list and things we don’t know yet. But people won’t wait long to experience the game’s world. God of War will launch on PS4 on April 20.
