Tencent continues to make a big deal in the West and this time, the Chinese giant bought shares of Yagera developer from Germany, known for the game Spec Ops: The Line (released in 2012).
After buying a large amount of studio shares Klei Entertainment – the creator of the game Don’t Starve – and pouring a large investment in developer 10 Chambers, Tencent continues to turn its attention to Yager. Tencent’s interest in Yager is not new. In early 2020, the Chinese corporation joined Yager’s board of directors through a small investment with the desire to profit from the potential game. The Cyclewhich was promised to be a new step in the battle royale genre.
The above investment has helped strengthen Tencent’s foothold in the Yager studio. Yager managing director Timo Ullmann revealed the news, noting that The Cycle will soon be re-released with a new look and experience based on player feedback.
Mr. Ullmann said the investment was a good thing because the studio was able to secure the workforce, despite the complicated problems in the development of other projects. Dead Island 2 is a prime example of a lack of manpower.
Tencent currently invests and owns shares in many game developers and publishers such as Riot Games, Remedy, Sumo Digital, Epic Games, Blizzard, Supercell, Platinum and Ubisoft.
